Limbird’s illustrated edition of Ann Radcliffe containing 3 of her novels including the Gothic classic, The Mysteries of Udolpho, noted as an inspiration for Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey. Half calf over marbled paper boards in good condition; bumped to corners; moderately rubbed to edges. Both volumes titled ‘British Novelist’ in gilt on a red morocco label; text blocks age toned; a few leaves displaying minor burn marks and slight discolouration; endpapers a little age spotted; both volumes bearing the previous ownership inscription of ‘Madeleine Agnes Dutton. Sherringford. May 6th 1824’. Numerous wood engravings in good condition throughout. Both volumes collated and complete.
