Christian White Rare Books is a leading rare bookseller in the UK. Our major specialities are in manuscripts (late medieval up to the present day), printed books from the handpress period, annotated books, and association copies from all phases of our history - books with interesting provenance. These interests are reflected in our varied offerings in literature, economics, politics and philosophy, history and the sciences and we offer high spots in all these areas.

We are proud to be members of the Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association and the PBFA. We offer an unconditional guarantee on everything that we sell. You can find us exhibiting regularly at rare book fairs in the United Kingdom, in London and Edinburgh and abroad at the New York Antiquarian Book Fair. Locally we exhibit at fairs across northern England, including the January and September York bookfairs and our home fair in Ilkley in late July.

In the interests of making the business carbon neutral we have recently acquired 4 acres of land in North Yorkshire where we are planting trees as a long-term carbon sink. Your purchases have made this project possible and will help to sustain it.

Meet the team

A decision in 2019 to pursue a degree as a mature student in History of Art at the University of Leeds sparked Jill Tindall’s interest in special collections research, leading her to discover the world of rare books and a newfound enthusiasm for the social networks and connections they generate. Jill’s particular interests lie in the early British artistic and literary Modernist movement c.1890 -1930 but she is always happy to immerse herself in any material which comes her way.
