Rare, satirical lithographed publication on the complex etiquette of making morning calls - making the right impression, avoiding unwanted visitors, or politely turning people away are explained. 12 lithographs and a single title page of letter press (12x18cm), all the images by a single unidentified artist, the sketches reflect the Regency preoccupation with social visits and the calling card culture of the era while paying lovely attention to details of fashion, interiors and a world powered by horse pulled carriages.

Each lithograph is captioned including ‘Bring me my Cloak’, ‘Setting Off’, ‘Yes indeed if you had come ten minutes sooner I would not have been in’, ‘Not at home’, ‘Haven’t Time to go Further’ and ‘Anybody Called Since We Went Out John?’

One institutional copy at Yale - OCLC: 1050148915

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Dark blue softcover boards in good plus condition measuring. Titled in gilt to upper; cracked over front and rear gutters; text block loose within the binding. Preliminaries very lightly age spotted; individual lithographs in very good condition. ‘Yates’ visible on front pastedown as an owner’s name. A lovely visual record.
