First Edition in jacket in very good overall condition. Cloth boards, endpapers and text block pristine. Jacket good; shelf worn and a little nicked to top edges; clipped; a little scratched to upper panel. 256 pp. Laid in is a signed letter from Tom Maschler, publisher and managing director of Jonathan Cape and the architect of the Booker prize for fiction. The letter is dated 29th June 1971 and written to an academic in the Department of English at the University of Leeds requesting a review of the book be written, ‘it is a book which has been very underrated in England and I hope you may like it’. An important piece of postmodernism from the collection of retired academic.
