Lithographic railway map owned and annotated by the Welsh-Argentinean Railway Engineer Gustavus Wilmot Rufus (GWR!) Coleman, brother of the legendary railway builder in Argentina, Arthur Coleman. The Coleman brothers were central to the construction of Argentina’s Great Southern Railway or FC Sud in the 1890s, and Gustavus - or perhaps his brother - has annotated the unfinished southern lines on this map with ‘finished’ to mark their completion after the map’s surveying was completed in 1910.

The two sons of Peter Coleman, Station Master at Brynmenyn Station in South Wales, Arthur Coleman (1868-1952) and his brother helped develop cities in the desert, with the senior figure, Arthur Coleman, subsequently recording the experience in several books written in Spanish on the railroads in Argentina.

DESCRIPTION: (81x115cm) 25 panel paper map mounted on linen, crisp and clean in the publisher’s brown cloth binding with gilt lettering. The front pastedown of the binding is stamped ‘G W R Coleman’ - the map was acquired alongside a second map inscribed by Arthur Coleman himself.
