Four volume 18th century edition in attractive speckled calf whose first owner in the 1780s was Mary Tunstall, subsequently given to her cousin, Maria Salvin.

Uniformly bound with gilt spine band and a red morocco spine label. A little tenderness to upper hinge of volume I but otherwise a very good set of bindings which are also very attractive. Inscription on first flyleaf of Vol I: ‘Maria Salvin from her Affec: Cousin M Tunstall’ and Salvin’s signature on the title page, opposite the fold-out map. ‘Mary Tunstall’ has placed her ownership signature on the flyleaf of Vol II and Salvin again on the title page (London and Wales volume). Tunstall and Salvin signatures to Volume III (Midlands and Northern England). Salvin only to Vol IV opposite foldout map of Scotland by Palmer. A lovely set.
