First edition sturdy quarto in good half black calf over cloth boards. Titled and tooled in gilt over red to six panelled spine; a little shelf worn to edges and scuffed along spine hinges. Marbled text block edges. Very square and sound. Attractive Turkish marble endpapers very good. Text block unmarked; age toned as expected. Lacking geological map to frontispiece. c.150 woodcut illustrations. Complete set of XXXVII plates, some folding, to rear plus a General Map of Palezoic Formations to face p.475. Map and plates age spotted in part to versos and rectos, some a little moreso than others. A faint aroma of tobacco noted. 523 pp.
