First edition small quarto handbook in good condition containing 2 original fold out coloured maps and 58 illustrations. Attractive publisher’s green cloth boards embossed and titled in gilt to upper and spine. Only very slightly knocked to corners, spine sunned and a little frayed to spine top and tail. Previous ownership inscription to front pastedown reads ‘H.A. [Box] from his cousin J. Hartford. April 1866’. Just cracking over gutters and occasional leaves but text block otherwise square and sound; lightly toned and lightly foxed throughout. Colour fold out map titled ‘Section of the Strata in the neighbourhood of Weymouth Dorset’ follows half title page; colour fold out map following xii titled ‘Index Map for Hand Book to the Geology of Weymouth and the Island of Portland’; fold out illustration titled ‘Coast from Bat’s Corner’ follows p.24.
