18th century paper insurance policy for a property on Chapel St, Tottenham, in London issued by the Sun Fire Office on March 20 1772 providing a detailed snapshot of Georgian era property and commerce. Policy number 308766. Insured party Thomas Downing, a cabinetmaker living in a brick dwelling house which is insured alongside household goods, wearing utensils and stock. Total sum insured £200. Hand signed by trustees including John Mason, W Braund and John Moffatt with three embossed revenue stamps to the tail and blind stamped with additional stamp to top left. The Sun Fire Office, founded in 1710 continues to trade and is now part of RSA Insurance Group.

CONDITION: Very well preserved for its age with expected fold lines and minor toning; ink remains dark and legible.

An ornate engraved header featuring Sun Fire Office ‘Sun in Splendour’ logo in very good condition to top.
