BEVERLEY, HULL AND EAST RIDING RACES - Horse Racing Posters

Four posters advertising Beverley, Hull and East Riding Races in 1882 and 1883 which offer a glimpse into the world of Victorian era horse racing including the names of owners, officials and stewards. Lord Durham and Mr I’Anson’s mounts feature heavily throughout the race card.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:

2 x race posters dated June 14th and 15th 1882 to top edges. Measure 50 cm x 40 cm. Each contains a printed summary of day one and day two races. One poster has been printed without the owners and horses details for several of the races; one is marked in red pencil with start times and one remains unmarked. Nicked in parts to edges and corners throughout, a couple of clean tears, old folds run horizontally across the middles, one small hole. In good + condition.

1 x race poster dated June 13th and 14th 1883. Measures 50 cm x 40 cm. Displays a printed summary of day one and day two races. Nicked to bottom edge and left edge. A clean tear to tail of leaf and a 3 cm hole and a small rip to top of leaf are visible, small hole to middle, a couple of old pencil marks, old fold line runs horizontally across middle. In near good condition.
