A delightful hand written letter dated March 24th 1813 written and signed by Prince Adolphus, Duke of Cambridge (Adolphus Frederick 1774 –1850), the tenth child and seventh son of King George III and Queen Charlotte. He writes to The Duchess of Dorset ‘to congratulate you on the match which I understand is soon to take place in your family’..... ‘a match which I trust will turn out most happily to your daughter.... the Lady Elizabeth’. The marriage of Lady Elizabeth (Sackville) to George Sackville-West, 5th Earl De La Warr took place later that year on 21st June 1813.

The letter and envelope have survived in very good condition, addressed to ‘The Duchess of Dorset, 45 Grosvenor Place’. The envelope folds into 3 sections and retains the original intact black seal with only a tear to the rear where opened. The letter is double sided and remains crisp, clean and entirely sound to all folds. Dated March 24th 1813 to top and signed to reverse.
