An interesting collection of 25 stand alone, late 18th and early 19th century hand written, folded letters spanning the dates 1782 - 1874, all from the same estate. Networks, connections and realities reveal themselves within. The introduction of the Penny Post which established a new Victorian postal network shows in the later letters a new found ability to communicate and conduct business directly with those outside previously smaller circles of acquaintance. All letters are clean and legible. Of note within the collection are:

1796 beautifully penned and signed letter sent on behalf of Mr John Briggs requesting a copy of Miss Tomlinson’s will. Addressed to Mr Chas Upton, Att at Law, Derby. Stamped with remnants of seal.

1794 letter discussing legal affairs to an address in Suffolk. Red wax seal, stamped Ipswich.

1782 letter addressed to James Heron Esq., [Chilham] Castle, Canterbury. Stamped Stamford, red seal. Sent from Easton May 16th ‘It is with great satisfaction to us to hear so good an account of our son....’. Signed J Skynner.

1788 letter sent from London to Mr Thomas, Draper, Hinckley, Leicester. ‘you have never thought proper to send the [...] balance due upon it which we consider a very ill treatment’. Stamped with remnants of seal.

1846 letter sent from 55 Parliament St, Westminster discussing the Lords Committee and West Riding Committee talks. Post marked with 2 one penny stamps.

1844 letter sent from Glasgow from Lord [Egleston] and Lady Montgomerie to Messrs Tod and Hill, Edinburgh. Post marked and one penny stamp.
