Three conversational letters between literary friends: from American novelist David Robert Plante to Scottish writer and journalist Iain Finlayson. During this period both David Plante and his partner Nikos moved in the London world of artists, poets, writers and thinkers while Iain Finlayson wrote and reviewed books for prominent publications including The Times, The Guardian, The Independent, and the Literary Review.

Letter 1: Dated June 8th. No year noted. David Plante writes in between returning from his flat in Lucca and an upcoming trip to Greece offering his condolences to Iain Finlayson on the death of his mother. One sided A4 size paper. Clean, crisp, clear and legible.

Letter 2: Dated June 27, 1979. David Plante thanks Iain Finlayson for passing on a letter from his old friend Audrey, ‘a very beautiful Nigerian - Scots woman I was very close to years ago. We took photographs of one another...’. He writes that himself and his partner Nikos are off to Italy shortly but will get back in touch on their return. One sided A4 size paper. Clean, crisp, clear and legible.

Letter 3: Dated January 8th [1987]. Headed 38, Montague Square, London, W1H 1TL. This letter begins ‘Of course I remember you!’ and goes on to talk about the divine indifference which has come over the author of late. News is passed on that another novel titled ‘The Native’ has been finished (published 1987) and another just started. ‘I’m glad we share Deborah’ Plante writes ‘She does make one fell one belongs’. Possibly a publisher? Enquiries are made after George and A Happy New Year is wished. A4 three sided. Clean, crisp, clear and legible.
