Pleasingly bound in its original publisher’s decorative cloth, an 1825 ‘New Edition’ guide to the university city of Oxford providing a description principally designed for strangers and containing a description of the colleges, halls, public buildings, churches &c, a chronological table of the university and city, an account of the government, examinations, degrees, distinctive ranks, dress & co of the members of the University to which is added a list of places in the vicinity of Oxford most worthy of the attention of strangers.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Green cloth boards in very good condition, decoratively embossed to front and rear with an inlaid image of the University. Endpapers and early leaves clean, unmarked, age spotted as expected and beginning to crack over the gutter. Frontispiece depicting the University Museum, engraved title page, folding map, and seven plates all in good condition noted on collation. Leaves throughout clean and remainder of text block entirely sound. 278 pp. plus index. Undated circa 1825.
