In very good condition. An early edition of English novelist Charles Reade's nineteenth-century novel which was first published in 1856 and was later turned into a play. It tells the story of a ruthless squire who becomes obsessed with a younger woman and conspires to have her lover framed and sent to jail.

PHYSICAL CONDITION: Rebound in very good half calf over lightly worn marbled boards. 5 panelled spine titled in gilt, modestly shelf worn. With a pictorial bookplate bearing the initials ‘R R’ to front pastedown. Early leaves a little spotted and age toned as expected. Advertisements to recto of half title page. Text block entirely sound; clean and unmarked throughout. 467 pp. Printed by W Clowes and Sons, Stratford Street and Charring Cross.
