Several editions of the Holy Bible were printed in Dublin. The title page of this large family bible is that of the King James Version printed by the Executors of David Hay by Boulter Grierson, Dublin in 1782. The text block directly following the title page presents an anomaly. Although collated and complete from beginning of signature b (a is missing) the lack of any illustrated plates points to a text which is not the 1782 version the title page might infer.

Bound in imposing calf boards which are well worn, stained and indented to front and rear. Corners only lightly bumped and very handsome six panelled spine in very good condition, titled in gilt over dark red ground.Cracking to bottom third of front gutter but otherwise volume is entirely sound. Later addition endpapers clean, containing hand written ownership history outlining the bible’s passing between members of the Johnson family in Yorkshire. David Johnson the gift of his father...... Johnson July 1st 1839 is inscribed to front free endpaper. Francis the son of David and Elizabeth Johnson was born January 29th 1828 at half past nine at night. Christened at Harewood Church. John the son David and Elizabeth Johnson was born September 25 1829 at a quarter before 5 in the morning. Christened at Beeston Church inscribed to front flyleaf. Henry Johnson the gift of his father Francis Johnson January 1897 to a further flyleaf.

The text block directly following the title page presents an anomaly. Although collated and complete from beginning of signature b (a is missing) the lack of any illustrated plates points to a text which is not the 1782 version the title page might infer.
