Unrecorded broadside edition of Hannah More’s poetic dialogue shared between a pair of weavers. Accompanying the broadside is a letter from the bibliophile Eric Quayle presenting the broadside to the Yorkshire art collector Ronnie Duncan.

DESCRIPTION: Tall format (37x21cm) printed on paper with horizontal chainlines for the ‘Cheap Repository’ which suggests John Marshall as the most likely printer. Two woodcuts signed in the plate by ‘Lee’ which depict the weavers and their product, helpfully labelled ‘Carpet turn’d’. 15 stanza poem printed in two columns. No date or printer given but in format close to the Bodleian’s similarly titled broadside issued with a single woodcut that is tentatively dated to 1800: OCLC: 09592088.

Eric Quayle made this gift in 1978 and himself suggests in his letter that John Marshall was the most likely printer. Ronnie Duncan (1928-) is a visionary Yorkshire art collector whose collection has been inspired by his gift for friendship with artists from the St Ives school, Ian Hamilton Finlay and the creator of Kettle’s Yard, Jim Ede.
