ANIMA VENUSTATIS: An unpublished personally compiled selection of poetry spanning the early Greek lyrical poets through to the 1930s

Crammed full of culturally important poems, each typed in black, one per leaf on Dickinson Croxley paper throughout the book. 128 pp. Commencing with the 6^th century BC Greek lyric poet Anacreon, the Roman Rufinus and moving through the courtly poets of France, 16^th and 17^th century English lyrical poets, 18^th and 19^th century Italian and German poets, war poets and important female poets including the French romantic poet Marceline Desbordes Valmore, Alice Meynell and Lady Margaret Sackville as well as A E Housman and Thomas Hardy. We have been unable to locate the compiler of this collection although their - his surely? - address in Harley Street must make it possible to do so.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Quarter bound in paper boards with calf to spine. Moderate shelf wear to edges, some minor abrasions. Overall, very sound, in good condition. Vellum worn to top and tail of spine which is titled ANIMA VENUSTATIS in gilt over calf to middle. End papers clean and unmarked. Not in a publisher’s binding. No indication of previous ownership other than a hand written clue on front free end paper reading, ‘Hilton, 149 Harley St, London’. Title page followed by 128 poems, each titled and author noted. Index of authors to rear listed in alphabetical order. All pp. clean and crisp throughout noted on collation.
