A copy owned by two generations of 18th century London apothecaries, the second donating the book to the Society of Apothecaries.

Contemporary speckled calf, cracked along outer hinges, boards attached but fragile. Bookplates of John Field (armorial) and below that Henry Field’s bookplate featuring an armillary sphere proferred by a mailed fist. Opposite is the bookplate of the Society of Apothecaries: ‘Presented by Henry Field Esq 1832’ - the younger Field in old age. Early leaves dried and friable to edges. Spotting to endpapers. This second edition collates complete: xvi, pp288.

The London apothecary Henry Field (1755-1837) was the son of John Field who also practised as an apothecary in Newgate Street; Henry was heavily involved in the affairs of the Society of Apothecaries, especially in his final years when he made this gift.
