PORTRAIT OF THE YOUNG WINSTON CHURCHILL: The Dundee Directory 1908 -1909

Scarce Dundee Directory with the portrait of Winston Churchill, then MP for the town. The General Notice at the front of the directory notes in detail events leading to the by-election of Saturday 9th May which led to the announcement of Mr Churchill’s victory as MP for Dundee.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: In good condition bound in red cloth covered boards incorporating blind ruling to front and rear. Blind stamped with Dundee coat of arms to front board and gilt lettering to spine. Lightly worn to corners and spine panel sunned showing shelf wear to bottom and top. Contains approx. 150 leaves of advertisements on variously coloured papers to front and rear including paste downs. Additionally includes ecclesiastical lists, judicial lists, municipal lists, postal directories, street, trades and professions directories, a fold out plan of Newport and Wormit and a plan of Tayport. Text block c. 880 pp. excluding advertisements, in very sound condition throughout. One page excised to front section of advertisements noted on collation. Full page half tone frontispiece of a young Right Hon Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill, MP for Dundee in very good condition protected by original tissue guard. Plan of Newport and Wormit, slightly torn along one fold. Plan of Tayport in good condition.
