A story of war time adventure first published in serial form in Blackwood’s Magazine. Escapes and Adventures chronicles the author’s attempts to escape Ruhleben camp, a civilian detention camp in Germany during World War I and his subsequent time at Stadt Vogtei Prison Berlin during the war years.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Third impression. Signed by the author. Dark blue cloth covered boards in good condition showing some wear and the faint outline of a cup mark to front. Title and author embossed in gilt to front board and spine panel. Gilt decoration to top and bottom front edges. Corners knocked and spine ends showing shelf wear. Text block edges in good condition. Internally text block a little shaken and leaves age toned but overall very sound. End papers clean. Front loose end paper reads ‘To Mr Alexander Suttie with compliments from Wallace Ellison’ written in black ink. Frontispiece depicting ‘Ruhleben – The Camp at Work’ by Mr LM Ettlinger cracked over hinges but remains intact. A further 24 illustrations throughout include reproductions of contemporary photographs and illustrations of the interior of Stadt Vogtei Prison, Berlin by Mr Monty Cresswell. All in very good condition other than p.90 which has come free from its binding, creased to bottom edge and top right. 311 pp.
