Memoirs of the Life of the Late George Frederic Handel. To which is added, A Catalogue of his Works, and Observations upon them.

An important early source for Handel’s life and work in good to very good condition. Half tanned calf to spine and corners over marbled paper covered boards. Bruising, rubbing, some chipping to corners, edges and lower board. Spine in good condition in 6 compartments, titled in gilt over red ground. Spine panel moderately age worn, head bumped. Text block edges in good condition. Endpapers in very good condition front and back, yellowed, foxed to edges. Binding just visible between front pastedown and front free endpaper. Text block otherwise sound. An ownership signature ‘Joseph Greenwood Oxenhope’ is inscribed on front pastedown in contemporary cursive. Title page is annotated in blue pen ‘1760’ below the Roman numerals date. The frontispiece portrait of Handel is not present. Text toned throughout, browned to fore edge, a small damp mark to top corner and top fore edge runs throughout last 60 pp. Does not compromise the text. p. 207 has a small clean tear mid leaf noted on collation reaching approx. 1 cm from spine to text edge.
