4 volumes bound extremely handsomely at a later date as 2. In notably splendid condition, both volumes are quarter bound in vibrant green marbled boards with stunning brown calf to spine. Boards in very fine condition. Spines in 6 compartments incorporating title lettered in gilt on red ground to top of spine and volume number lettered in gilt within a gilt circle to lower panel. Beautiful gilt edging to text block edges. Entire exterior crisp and fresh. Each volume housed within a green speckled slipcase, both a little faded to corners. Otherwise very solid.

Later endpapers clean and fresh throughout. Small bookbinder’s stamp reading ‘Delrue Bookbinders 1978’ to bottom of each front pastedown. Text clean and unmarked throughout some foxing.

Book 1 comprises both volume 1 and volume 2 of ‘The Life and Times of the Late Duke of Wellington. Comprising the Campaigns and Battle Fields of Wellington and His Comrades’. Leaves a little spotted and yellowed predominantly to early leaves. Text block otherwise in very good condition. Full page steel engravings on each frontispiece of The Duke of Wellington (vol 1) and Queen Victoria (vol 2). 15 further full page steel engravings throughout volume 1 including 3 fold out maps of Holland, Spain/ Portugal and Southern Italy. Vol 1 303 pp. 20 further engravings in volume 2 including 4 fold out maps. Vol 2 407 pp.

Book 2 comprises both ‘The Life and Times of the Late Duke of Wellington. The Political Life of the Duke’ by Thomas Gaspey Esq. 375pp. and ‘The Life and Times of the Late Duke of Wellington. England’s Battles by Sea and Land’. 364 pp. Leaves a little spotted and yellowed to frontispiece, title pages and fly leaves. Text blocks otherwise in very good condition. Full page steel engravings to each frontispiece of Prince Albert (vol. 3) and Horatio Viscount Nelson (vol.4). Further full page steel engravings throughout, 14 (vol. 3) and 33 (vol. 4).
