An insight into the day-to-day life of Hugh Paget in Kingston, Jamaica including swims in the pool before breakfast, weather updates, lunch and cocktail parties at the Myrtle Bank Hotel and trips to the Palace Cinema. Education and library meetings are noted alongside dealings with Sir Harry [Governor of Jamaica]. News of the death of Hitler is recorded on May 1st 1945. Paget documents his trip back to London in July, meetings at Oriel College, Oxford and December trips to The Gambia, Portugal, Brazil and Paraguay before his return to Trinidad where he passes NYE 1945.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Very good condition. Boards bound in dark red cloth lettered National Diary 1945. 10 x 14.5 cm. End leaves in very good condition. Handwritten note ‘Bought In Miami Florida USA 1944’ on front endpaper. Flyleaf records in handwriting the name ‘Hugh Paget 1945, Jamaica’ and the author’s address in Suffolk in 1976. Back end leaf notes the writers weight on Dec 31st 1945. Memoranda page contains handwritten list of books and authors. All leaves clean and legible. Approx 20% of the pages have no entries. Ephemera laid in includes a Bonhams auction slip dated 1 Feb 2017 and a Brentwood College of Education library slip.
