The anonymous album maker seems to have been an undergraduate at the college from 1920-1923. She has used her album to record sporting events within the College, usually annotating the images in white ink, sometimes with full names ‘Aubrey Barrow’, ‘Gwen French’, ‘Elizabeth Glover’ etc; often with initials. There are photos of the women’s Varsity Hockey Match, 1921; Newnham College Boat Club VIIIs, on and off the river; 2 photos of the Japanese Crown Prince in College (as well as the 2 letters); the Putney Race between L.S.M.W (London School of Medicine for Women) and the Newnham VIII (these races were among the earliest inter-university competitions for women’s VIIIs). Our album maker records the Long Vac of 1921; Varsity Hockey Match, 1922; two reading parties at Blagdon in Somerset; a few photographs of college rooms; ‘The Girton Match’ and a single page of photographs of senior members of the college: ‘Miss Richardson. Miss Chrystal, Miss Allison, Miss Clough’.
