24 separately published sermons bound into a single sammelband volume with the ownership inscription of an 18th century Lincolnshire woman.
Small octavo sized volume, modern brown buckram and new endpapers (see 20th century pencil note to final pastedown ‘Bound Mr Liddon 16.XI.61.’) and a pencilled list of the imprints on the first flyleaf. Preceding the first sermon is an 18th century page stub on which is written: ‘A Collection of 24 Sermons... Elizabeth Yares Her Book Corby In Linchireshire [Lincolnshire] 1799’ and in a later hand below ‘H C Holmes his book. 1850’ with this ownership inscription repeated on the first sermon. The sermons are a little browned but generally in very good condition; the final sermon has some rounded corners. A full list below. All but two of the sermons were printed by the prolific London printer Henry Hills. The selection is strongly London-centric with several sermons preached before Queen Anne at St James’s Chapel of Windsor. Other locations include Oxford (St Mary’s), Salisbury and a single sermon in northern England at Warrington in Lancashire.
