From writer John Cunliffe’s library, a first edition in red cloth publisher’s binding with gilt lettering to spine. In near fine condition with patches of discolouration to spine and slight bumping. Dusting to top edge. Dust jacket in good condition with chips to to spine and large closed tear to tail of spine. Not price clipped. Perhaps the most notable features are the extensive notes made by Cunliffe (1933-2018) who is best remembered as the creator of Postman Pat. These notes run from the upper flyleaf to opposite the half title and discuss his thoughts on the each story’s plot and characters upon reading the book, he is both critical and complimentary; ‘It is difficult to know what he really means by it all.’ ‘A high standard of craftsmanship is found throughout.’ Cunliffe’s signature can be found in pencil on the upper and lower flyleaf and his ownership bookplate is also present on the upper pastedown.
