Internally, green coated end-papers front and rear; pp 132 generously illustrated with black and white photographs; sporadic spotting. Near very good. Laid in card printed ‘With best wishes for a Happy and Prosperous New Year’ from W.H. Lever [Lord Leverhulme] dated 1894 and hand annotated on reverse ‘To Master Parker with the authors Comps.’

W.H.Lever’s observations and reflections on his journey around the World between September, 1892, and March, 1893 ranging from Toronto, down the western sea-board of the United States, to the Sandwich Islands (Hawaii), Samoa, New Zealand and Australia (and home via the Suez Canal) addressing the topography and history of the various lands and describing indigenous peoples and aspects of their cultures, together with their colonial governments, their legislation and the situation with regard to land and important industries. The jottings originally appeared in the form of letters to “The Birkenhead News”, and the illustrations include many photographs taken by the author.
