Inscribed to the Deputy Dean of Westminster Abbey, the first and only edition of one of the most influential works on church restoration which is inscribed by the author to the Deputy Dean of Westminster, 'The Rev.d Lord John Thynne with the Authors very respectful compliments', just a year after Scott was appointed architect to the Abbey. Bound in publisher's textured green cloth with gilt lettering, just a hint of spine lean but very fresh boards. Yellow coated endpapers with roundel book label of Thynne's 'Bibliotheca Hannensis 1873' to the front pastedown, offsetting to opposite blank below Scott's inscription. Slight cracking along inner hinges. Binder's ticket to final pastedown 'Bound by Burn, Hatton Garden'. Bright and clean throughout: a very good copy indeed. Scott was influential both in his writings as here and in the array of buildings that he designed which included the Midland Grand Hotel at St Pancras Station, the Albert Memorial, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London and St Mary's Cathedral, Glasgow, the main building of the University of Glasgow and St Mary's Cathedral in Edinburgh. Additionally he founded a dynasty of architects.
