[4] pp 174 [pp] 16, blank 'Notes'. Privately produced collection of poems, essays and translations by a well travelled, wealthy Irish woman married to the Irish entrepreneur in Germany, William Thomas Mulvany. There is no imprint or date so the date 1898 must be inferred from the final dated memorial poem to Mulvany with which the volume ends - the dedication reveals that the book was compiled by one of Mulvany's children and the book feels as if it was produced in Germany. Pictorial cloth binding on this quarto-sized volume, a little rubbing but still bright, almost garish in effect with all edges gilt. Floral end-papers with inner red cloth hinges left visible. The title page gives only author and title together with a half-tone portrait of Mulvany and a floral design, no doubt her drawing. The book includes fifteen colour plates reproducing Mulvany's oil paintings and other sketches interspersed with numerous sketches and photographs by Edward Sherman Gould, Noel Clarke, Annabel Mulvany, Mildred Mulvany and others. Proceeding from poems written as a child (Mulvany was born Alicia Winslow in Fermanagh) at Dundrum Lodge, Dublin through essays on 'novel reading', the volume records the family's extensive German connections and wider European travel including 'Romance in Lucerne', translations from the German and sketches of 'George Noel Clarke, Annabel Mulvany, Isabel Du Maurier, Mrs du Maurier.' Worldcat locates BL, UC Dublin, Delaware and Kansas only.
