13 Legacy receipts dating from 1831-2 for payments made by the estate of John Thomas Batt of New Hall near Salisbury in Wiltshire. There are legacies to individuals, such as his wife's sister, Sophia Neave, who received £2000 and two guineas for a ring; William Courtenay who received £500, and also charitable gifts, for example£100 to the Governors of the Salisbury Infirmary. John Thomas Batt was a well connected and successful lawyer in Wiltshire and London from the 1780's - 1820's. The receipts are printed on both sides on crisp linen paper and bound together with a pink silk tie.
