Annotated Play Typescripts and Theatre Programme belonging to the actor John Martin Harvey (1863-1944)

Four typescripts of plays, a theatre programme and an advertisement flyer belonging to the English stage actor Sir John Martin-Harvey. The plays include "The Diamond Pendant" an adaptation in four acts of Maxwell Gray's novel of the same title, bound in green card covers, internally near fine; "Partners" a one act play which has been renamed "Bridge" by Harvey whose name and address is inscribed on the title page: the unbound play has been extensively annotated and corrected; "The Princess of the Wilderness" is an unbound one act play by Norton Ferrars, whose name has been crossed out and replaced by Nancy Ford; the final item is scene 2 of an untitled play featuring the characters Miklos, Elizabeth and Kathy: this script has also been annotated with additional lines. The theatre programme [ff8] which dates from 1933 is for a Personal Visit of Martin Harvey, his wife Nell de Silva and Company to the Southampton Empire Theatre, where they performed "The King's Messenger" and other plays. The flyer is for the New Theatre Oxford 1907. A fascinating collection.
