Volume VI of this journal devoted to the craft and history of book binding, published in1893 and containing numerous plates, text illustrations, cloth binders specimen plates, advertisements etc. Edited by Robert Hilton, The British Bookmaker was published from 1891-1894 before being absorbed into The British Printer. This volume was owned by the Yorkshire bookbinder Martin E Thorpe who trained at Leeds College of Technology in the 1950s and founded the binders Etherington Thorpe & Co. Ltd. The book has been recently rebound in half black morocco over pebbled cloth, red spine label with gilt lettering, raised bands, green marbled endpapers, marbled edges to the text block. Vol VI vi, pp288, near fine, just a little spotting to the original end papers. Ownership inscription of Ernest Hutchings to title page. A fascinating and elegant volume.
