My New Picture Book

pp35 A delightful Victorian children's picture book, the linen backed pages are fully illustrated in colour with charming characters and interesting period details such as Brunel's SS Great Eastern which was launched in 1858. The topics covered include birds, nursery songs, wild and tame animals, the way we travel, Robinson Crusoe and Punch and Judy. This 6 shilling and sixpence book is in good condition in illustrated stiff card covers, adverts for Darton & Hodge's Educational Prints to the lower cover. The covers are rubbed, creased and worn to the edges, however the pages are bright despite some spotting, pencil scribbles to verso of a few. Pages 32 and 33 are lacking and the book has been rebound with the covers upside down. Neat inscription to front pastedown" MA, EJ, CJ and JH Humphreys, Woodhouse, Leicestershire 1860-65". A fascinating glimpse of Victorian childhood.
