A presentation copy of this important title to Harry Horlock Stringer from the author: 'To Harry with many thanks for starting me on a quest which has no end. Very best wishes Robin Hopper'. A signed letter laid down opposite the title page from Hopper to Stringer in which the writer remembers with great affection how Stringer began his life as a potter and discussing the creation of the book. A good copy only as the glued binding has split inside the book - in a very good jacket. We have recently acquired the library of Harry Horlock Stringer who was a leading British potter at the old Fulham Pottery in the 1950s where he concentrated on earthenware. Later he moved to Taggs Yard in Barnes, south-west London, where he built and ran his own school, welcoming pupils and making friends from across the world including many leading potters such as Cardew and lay enthusiasts such as the actor Ginger Rogers. Stringer experimented with his own glazes and firing techniques, and wrote a book on Raku, becoming a Fellow of the Craft Potters Association, editing the association's journal for a time and exhibiting widely as well as lecturing at home and abroad.
