(20x25cm) Silver gelatin photographic portrait of Sir William Golding, probably a publicity shot for the publication of his novel, Rites of Passage. Golding is pictured in Nelson's Great Cabin on board HMS Victory around the time of first publication of his Booker Prize winning novel which became the first part of his nautical trilogy, To the Ends of the Earth; three years later he won the Nobel Prize for Literature.
