The play is set in the aftermath of the Northumbrian Jacobite rebellion of 1715 in which Countess Derwentwater escaped, and saved her liberty and the family jewels by clambering up one of the clefts of Wallabarrow Crag, since called the Lady's Rake. Bound in purple cloth with the original black label to the upper cover with faded lettering; brown coated endpapers with bookplate of Wood Hollin Hall on the first pastedown, foxing to preliminaries, three further full page engravings.
