First edition of this great collection of Sherlock Holmes short stories which concludes with Holmes' fateful encounter with Dr Moriarty atop the Reichenbach Falls.

A good copy only but bound in the original bevel edged blue pictorial boards, bumping to corners; all edges gilt, a slit to top half of the outer hinge between spine and upper board - not affecting the integrity of the binding. Wear at the head of the spine.

Original floral endpapers. Text collated and complete with Sidney Paget's marvellous illustrations. Small ink mark at the head of the first ten leaves - 2mm square. Small unobtrusive brown spot around pp215-225. Possibly a rebinding copy. [frontispiece] pp[6] pp 280.
