A superb Bloomsbury association copy owned and inscribed by David Garnett who published an influential review of this novel in 1923, describing Woolf as ‘the most interesting of the younger writers now living as well as the best of them.’

Jacob’s Room was the first full length work published by the Hogarth Press, Woolf’s first fully experimental novel and a landmark in 20th century fiction.

A prominent member of the Bloomsbury group, the writer and publisher David Garnett married Woolf’s niece Angelica Garnett in 1942, living at Hilton Hall in Cambridgeshire.

Bound in mustard yellow cloth; good colour to the boards, a little rubbing to the spine; one tiny chip at the left edge of the spine label; bumps to corners and a scratch across the top of the text block. pp 290 pp14 adverts.

David Garnett has written his name at the head of the front flyleaf and below is tipped in an envoy from a letter on blue paper by Woolf herself: ‘Your truly Virginia Woolf’. Opposite is Garnett’s Hilton Hall bookplate - he and Angelica lived there from the 1940s-1960s.

Provenance: from the estate of Garnett’s wife Angelica Bell/ Garnett, her library dispersed by Angus O’Neill of the Omega Bookshop.
