Distinctive and interesting hand written, naively illustrated travel journal written by one of the international delegates travelling through Europe and East Africa as part of the global tour in connection with the Anglican World Conference (the Toronto Conference) of August 1963.

The entries which are written in a difficult hand record East African travels throughout Uganda (the Victoria Nile, Entebbe, Misindi), traversing Tanganyika (now Tanzania) and arriving in the Kenyan port city of Kisumu on Lake Victoria. European travels include Paris and Rome where our writer is fascinated by the Amphictyonic league. Sundays are dominated by church attendance.

Our writer mentions writing his report and meeting with the Bishop to discuss the Toronto Conference and its meanings for Uganda. He is ‘hopeful for the unity of the churches in Uganda’. Scribblings to the endpapers and covers detail BOAC flight and transit routes between London, Sudan and Accra.

Winfield Sketch Pad in good condition only. Several leaves within sit loosely from binding. 40pp, of which 20pp are full page illustrations including scenery, accommodations, elephants, hippos and the Acropolis.
