Ethiopian Ge'ez Magical Prayer Scroll, Hand-Painted Parchment

Ethiopian prayer scroll containing invocations against evil as well as requests for wishes that may include luck in love, health and the protection of domestic animals. Copied in Ge’ez script, probably in the early twentieth century on 7 pieces of parchment stitched together, in a mixture of black and red script; trimmed to right margin; sometimes ragged to left. Two coloured guardian angels with swords appear at the head and middle of the manuscript with an ornate geometric cross design towards the bottom, reinforcing the scroll’s written invocations. A lovely object.
