The broadside depicts the comic actor John Emery performing a popular song written by Charles Dibdin, Jr. at the Theatre Royal, Covent Garden and remains a key example of how regional identity - specifically the stereotype of the shrewd but rustic Yorkshireman was packaged and sold to London theatre audiences at the turn of the 19th century.
