Two First Edition, first impressions in distinctive original red and black snakeskin patterned boards with spine lettered in gilt:

1. Vile Bodies. Good condition. First Edition. Chapman and Hall Ltd.: London; 1930. Publisher’s red and black snake skinned boards age worn; knocked to corners; gilt titling a little faded to spine. very good red and black graphically illustrated title page; cracking to front few leaves; ppvii - x loose from text block; otherwise sound and unmarked.

2. Black Mischief. Good plus condition. First Edition. Chapman and Hall Ltd.: London; 1932. Red and black snakeskin boards near very good with bright gilt to spine and a couple of outlines of cup rings to upper; age spotted to text block edges and margins; otherwise clean, unmarked and very sound.

Evelyn Waugh (1903-1966) is generally recognised as one of the leading English prose writers of the 20th century. His early reputation was founded on a brilliant succession of satirical comic novels; he also published a sequence of travel books, often related to his fictional themes.
