French Friendship Album from the Mid-Century

Hand drawn original sketches, cartoons, water colours, signatures and inscriptions fill this attractive French friendship album, addressed to the album’s owner Denise. The 28 full page works within, from very artistically inclined friends include landscapes, still lives, birds, comic characters, pastoral scenes and portraits in a variety of mediums from pen and pencil to water colour. The names of the artists, occasional inscriptions and dates appear to the tail of most of the leaves. A landscape by Tribel L is titled ‘Bruges’, a charming regional folk illustration by Jeanne Disy, a French illustrator, is titled ‘En Alsace’, an accomplished pencil portrait titled Marcia Magdalena is signed Ida Dehaes and several contributors in later leaves write ‘avec toute ma sympathie’.

PHYSICAL CONDITION: Cloth covered, hardbacked landscape album in very good condition measures 24.5cm x 17cm. Fresh and clean throughout; leaves to rear remain blank.
