School prize awarded to a future forgemaster and Lord Mayor of Leeds, a second Edition in near very good condition. Handsomely bound in soft, dark brown calf, delicately tooled and titled in gilt to upper, lower and spine. Nicked across the centre of the upper; a little bumped to corners; a little chipped along spine hinges and edges. Very fresh marbled endpapers. Preliminaries lightly foxed otherwise text block very sound, clean and unmarked. Printed by T. Richards. 336 pp.

An interesting inscription to front free reveals the volume to have been a scripture prize awarded to Ambrose Edmund Butler of Henwick House School near Worcester in 1860. This is the same Ambrose Edmund Butler (1848 -1923) who went on to become a highly prominent industrialist and public figure taking over the management of Kirkstall Forge in Leeds and becoming Lord Mayor of the city in 1901.
