Handsomely bound in soft, dark brown calf, delicately tooled and titled in gilt to upper, lower and spine. Nicked across the centre of the upper; a little bumped to corners; a little chipped along spine hinges and edges. Very fresh marbled endpapers. An interesting inscription to front free reveals the volume to have been a scripture prize awarded to Ambrose Edmund Butler of Henwick House School near Worcester in 1860. This is the same Ambrose Edmund Butler (1848 -1923) who went on to become a highly prominent industrialist and public figure taking over the management of Kirkstall Forge in Leeds and becoming Lord Mayor of the city in 1901.
