An uncommon imprint in very good condition of this ‘Gem’ first edition of Shakespeare’s poetry and songs. Handsome red roan boards embossed in gilt to upper with the crest of Trinity College, Cambridge; decoratively tooled and titled to 6 panelled spine. Gilt text block edges very good. Marbled endpapers very fresh, delicately tooled with gilt decoration to pastedown edges. Very minor spotting to preliminaries and title page otherwise text block crisp and clean throughout. 255 pp. Printed by R. Clay, Son and Taylor. Edited by the prominent Victorian poet and critic Francis Turner Palgrave, this historical anthology compiles Shakespeare's lyrics and complete sonnet sequences. A lovely copy.
