A small archive from Charles Skipper & East Limited, the London bank note printers including 2 hand written letters on company headed paper which divulge negotiations regarding the potential supply of new bank notes to the Banco da Republica dos Estados Unidos du Brazil and Banco Nacional de la Republica de Colombia. The letters are dated March and April 1891 and penned by an agent working on behalf of Charles Skipper & East, sent from an address on Rue de Soutay, Paris. Details of potential orders discussed include denominations required, quantities, note sizes, print type, costings, colour, watermarks, vignettes, precise shipping costs and security arrangements, ‘they want the new notes to be of a different appearance from those now in use and to combine all possible conditions of security’.
Letter 1: Dated 23rd March 1891 discusses the agent’s commission, the receipt of sketches for the ‘un mil’ note for Banco da Republica dos Estados Unidos du Brazil and the receipt of 9 bank notes used in Colombia by Banco Nacional de la Republica de Colombia sent from M Luis Carlos Rico of Bogota. 4 sides in contemporary hand writing.
