Two volumes of scrupulously executed mathematical rules, examples and handwriting exercises with provenance to the estate of South Yorkshireman Mr. Thomas Newbould, future manager of Earl Fitzwilliam’s Hemingfield Colliery. Included are:

1. A small card backed exercise book containing a superb example of Victorian cursive writing practice full of proverbs, numbers and letters over 12 leaves to both recto and verso. Even better, with the name of the writer, T Newbould to the front wrapper. In excellent condition throughout.

2. A hard backed unlined volume, quarter bound in marbled boards with a dark calf spine and corners. Marbled text block edges. Very sound. A decorative hand drawn frontispiece depicting an angel is inscribed again by our writer, T Newbould. Each leaf is bursting with mathematical theory, rules and examples written in a most precise hand. Rules and examples fill every leaf on proofs, fractions, additions, subtraction, multiplication, division, rule of three, decimal fractions, reduction, intergers and square roots. 70 pp. In excellent condition.
