Dick’s Standard Plays used by The British Drama League: Oliver Twist, Old Curiosity Shop, The Wandering Jew

A collection of 11 plays in the ‘Dicks’ Standard Plays’ series. Issued as individual plays, each with an engraved illustration to the front and in overall very good condition. Several are stamped ‘British Drama League, Fitzroy Square’ which was founded in 1919 but the styles of binding and decoration date several of the issues to possibly the late 1800s onwards. Included are:

No. 62. Tom and Jerry. 26 pp. Strengthened to spine with cloth strip. Handwritten to top ‘ Adelphi Jan 10 1822’

No. 293. Oliver Twist. 26 pp. plus advertisements. Covered in card wrapper. with ‘Oliver Twist’ written in contemporary hand. Stamped BDL to pp.1 and British Theatre Association stamped to inside front wrapper.

No. 342. Uncle Tom’s Cabin. A few leaves to front and rear sit loose from binding. ‘Stowe’ hand written to top edge of front.

No. 368. The Dumb Man of Manchester. 2 copies. 13 pp. plus advertisements. One lightly stamped ‘King’s Standing. Burton on Trent’ to front wrapper. One numbered 221174 with leaves uncut.

No. 374. David Copperfield. 12 pp. Possibly incomplete.

No. 397. The Wandering Jew. 20 pp. plus advertisements. Numbered 117813 to front wrapper.

No. 398. The Old Curiosity Shop. 26 pp. plus advertisements.

No. 399. Under the Gaslight. 23 pp. Stamped BDL to top and numbered to tail.

No. 412. My Unknown Friend. 19 pp. plus advertisements. Stamped and numbered to tail.

No. 510. Remorse. 22 pp. plus advertisements. Leaves uncut.
