Early edition with beautifully executed and seemingly contemporary hand colouring to initial letters, printer’s ornaments and armorials. This volume is bound in a 19th century half parchment over marbled boards with the spine hand titled in black ink. Pleasingly firm and square, a little rubbed to corners and age toned to spine. Endpapers clean, age toned as expected. Frontispiece depicts the author. Title page reveals signs of previous ownership in a contemporary hand close to foreedge although illegible. ‘With many rare antiquities never before imprinted’. Beautiful vibrant hand coloured initial letters and head pieces throughout text block which is in very good condition. A small hole on p.19 does not compromise the text, an ink spot runs along the lower margin of pp. 69 -81 again not compromising the text, both noted on collation. 420 pp. collated and complete plus ‘A table of the most remarkable things handled in the foregoing booke’. Contains chapters on Languages, Names, Surnames, Allusions, Anagrammes, Armories, Monies, Empreses, Apparell.,Artillarie, Wise speeche, Proverbs, Poesies, Epitaphes.
